When Hell House LLC came out in 2010 I was doubtful. I wasn't that big of a fan of found footage, and honestly, I'm still not that fond of it. I can say I was very wrong. I loved the characters, the story, and the jump scares were real keen. It easily made my top twenty for that year. However, we aren't talking about it. We're talking about Hell House LLC II: The Abaddon Hotel. Does it live up to the unnerving experience I had with part one?
No. No, it does not.
Hell House LLC II: The Abaddon Hotel picks up eight years after the Halloween night incident. The owner of the hotel, a psychic, and a guy who survived that night are on a talk show or a news report. I'm not sure who any of these “main characters” are. I don't remember the owner. The survivor guy is new, I swear I re-watched the first one just to figure out who Mitchell was. I'm guessing he's just a survivor, but he acts like he was part of the entire haunt. The psychic dude is just a television psychic ghost hunter type. They're going over some different instances where people have filmed themselves entering the Abaddon and never coming out. While doing this program, another investigative reporter sees her chance to talk Mitchell, the survivor, and Brock, the psychic, into going back to the hotel and finding answers. They go in, do the typical found footage shaky-cam running around bull and they all die. Oops… spoilers.
This movie is terrible when compared to the first one. Hell, it's terrible compared to any other found footage film. The actors are just bland. Someone on Shudder compared them to porn actors, but I think that was being super generous. They tried to tell the backstory of the hotel and the cult that the first owner ruled over, however, it was so disjointed I'm not sure what was what. The first Hell House LLC was full of interesting scares! This one was just full of shit.
Both Hell House LLC and Hell House LLC II: The Abaddon Hotel are on Shudder. Watch the first one, this sequel is just embarrassing. Let's hope part three, and yes, this is a trilogy, makes up for it.
