Laughter is the best medicine; I live by this idiom. I love to laugh. Pranks are hilarious when both people are laughing. Chester is a prankster that loves to laugh. Larry is his April fool. Chester is insane. Larry is in trouble.
I'm Just F*cking With You is another film in Hulu's Into The Dark series. Larry is a humorless soul who is being forced to attend his cousin's wedding who is marrying Larry's ex. To deal with this really unfortunate experience, Larry has developed a penchant for trolling anyone and everyone on social media. Larry rolls up on this neon nightmare of a motel. Chester is the guy on duty. Chester loves to pull a fast one. Always ending on “I'm just fucking with you!” Always. Larry doesn't think it's too funny. Larry isn't a fan of Chester's humor. Chester just loves the sound of people laughing. Did I mention Chester is insane?
This film might be my favorite of this series. It's hilarious and dark. There are even a few times when you're not too sure if Larry is the sane one. It's a delight to look at. All the neon and luau decorations make it feel lighthearted and yet quite sinister. The writing is full of quips and jabs. The characters skirt the line between unlikable and charming. Larry is kind of a douche and as I've said, Chester is a few fries short of Happy Meal, but you like them!
I know I should say more about this film, and trust me, I really do want to say stuff! However, this is one of those films you have to experience for yourself. It really has some of the most spectacular settings. I think this is one of those movies that you can get away with showing your non-horror loving friends because there's not that much gore and there's not that many jump scares, which makes me super happy.
I gotta say Hulu did a great job with I'm Just F*cking With You, I'm super excited to check out the rest of the films in this series. I really kinda hope they explore this story a little more too!
