Jeepers Creepers 3
by Victor Salva

It’s been over 10 years since Jeepers Creepers fans have been anxiously waiting for the third installment featuring the terrifying eating spree of the Creeper. The time of the release came and expectations had already become too high, so what does Victor Salva’s latest horror piece offer to the overmilked horror genre?

Nothing really. However, it’s nice to see the Creeper once again in action.

For whatever reason, the story of Jeepers Creepers 3 takes place right after the horrific happenings of Jeepers Creepers (released in 2001). In particular, it picks up in the moment after Derry’s (Justin Long) murder, leaving his sister in shock. That said, it is important to know that seeing the first two parts is absolutely essential to stay on track with the plot of the third movie. If you go blind, chances are you will be totally lost.

The long-anticipated story follows Sgt. Tubbs (Brandon Smith) from Jeepers Creepers, who is in complete shock after witnessing the killing spree of a humanoid creature taking flight and disappearing into the night sky. It is now up to him and his team to stop the flesh-eating beast from going on another spree; unsuccessfully, though, considering the story continues in the second part of the franchise.

Remember the eerie silhouette of the Creeper hunting down his victims? This is where Jeepers Creepers 3 innovates. For the most part, the movie takes place in stark daylight, leaving the Creeper exposed to eyesight. This is immensely different from the previous parts, where he remained somewhat hidden and fans were feeling uneasy only by watching his gloomy, dark figure. Even though this hints that taking him down will be much easier now, Sgt. Tubbs’ mission is harder than expected.

At the end of the day, if you are a warm-blooded fan of the franchise, such as myself, you are likely to find Jeepers Creepers 3 a solid and entertaining choice! Certainly, it’s better than Jeepers Creepers 2, but unfortunately, it falls short of the quality and suspense of the original story. However, that’s almost always the case with all movie franchises.

One thing is for sure, the door is now left open for a 4th part. Let’s just hope it won’t take another decade to surface.
