Recovery
by Darrell Wheat

Recovery is one of those movies that opens strong, it lures you in without warning that stuff is about to get WTF real fast. It really kinda shakes you up, but then it kinda fizzles out.

The film opens with a perfect little vignette that sets up our family of wackos with a bloody splash. It was like an amuse-bouche of murder.

The opening credits roll over a nifty insta-snap-gram-chat montage introducing us to Jessie and her budding romance with Kent through obnoxious photos. When the movie starts, it's Jessie's last night as a high school student. While at Kent's graduation party she catches him cheating. She gets pissed and meets this chick named Kim who explains that he's not worth the fight and talks her into going to a seedy club. Jessie agrees but only if she can go home to change.

She gets to her house and her parents give her a graduation present: a new phone. Her nerdy brother, Miles, stets it up for her but he also weasels his way in on her club adventure. After picking up Jessie's bad boy hook up, Logan, the four hit the club where Jessie lets loose. Kim talks her into doing drugs. They snort lines off of Jessie's new phone and the phone ends up in Kim's pocket. Kim disappears from the club, but luckily, Miles put a phone finder on Jessie's phone. They track Kim and the phone to a very spooky house. Inside the house we discover the crazy family from before. Now the four have to fight to make it out alive before they become part of the family.

This movie had so much potential. That opening scene just explodes! I got excited for the rest of the movie! Then nothing happened for a long time. The movie felt like it just slowed to a halt. The dialogue was good, it felt natural, and the effects are decent. That's pretty much all you can say. It's such a shame that it came out with a punch that went nowhere.
