Antibirth

Antibirth

by Danny Perez

Antibirth is gross. It is sticky and slimy. It's full of a lot of body horror. It is awesome.

In a small mountain town, where it's pretty much be in the military or be nothing, there lives Lou. Lou is a party girl. She works just enough for beer and drug money. One day Lou gets lured away from the party she's at, she's so messed up it's unbelievable. About a week later, Lou starts to exhibit signs of pregnancy. This is where Lou's life goes haywire. Lou doesn't believe she's knocked up, so it's business as usual: party, party, party. Smoke weed, snort coke, drink some booze. She confides in her friend, Sadie, who is convinced that she's totally pregnant. Lou is searching for the last guy she was seen leaving the party with. She doesn't find him, but she does meet Lorna who is a few burgers short of a Happy Meal, but she seems like the only person that is willing to help Lou and her rapidly growing baby.

I wish I could tell you more of the plot, but this movie is something everyone should see. It's so beautifully shot. Even the more graphic body horror scenes are kind of pretty. It's almost like David Cronenberg and Nicolas Winding Refn combined and were implanted into Natasha Lyonne's uterus.

Along with the wonderful Natasha Lyonne, the cast also includes Chloe Sevigny and Meg Tilly. Three very talented actresses that just blew me away in this film. I am so happy to see Meg Tilly acting again. I just can't be more pleased with the character, Lorna, that she played. She was just the right amount of crazy to get a chuckle out of, and yet, you would want to hide the sharp objects from her.

Honestly there isn't much more I can say! The setting was great, the acting was great, the pay off at the end was so amazing. This is a swell little bit of body horror that I highly recommend.

About the reviewer:

Robin Thompson was born and raised in a small mountain town in North East Georgia. She was brought up in a very liberal household. Her parents fed her a steady diet of horror, comedy, and science fiction. Her mother let her read Cujo at the age of 5. Her father took her to see Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare just so she could experience her favorite franchise in 3D. As a teenager while all her girlfriends wanted to watch Dirty Dancing she was the weird girl in the corner clutching her copy of Pieces hoping someone would be interested in murder and mayhem. Now as an adult she gets her kicks by playing video games for people on YouTube and writing reviews about her one true love, horror movies.
