Disciple: Return Of The Radicals
Hosted by Crossroads Church, Las Vegas, Nevada U.S.A
A special review written by Tim Duran
March 20, 2024, marks the return of the radically heavy Christian outfit, Disciple. A mainstay in my home and every time they hit Las Vegas, it's a family outing. It's been about 10 years since the last time they played in Vegas area, so tonight is a very special night. The show was hosted by the Crossroads Church in Henderson, NV. Big thanks to that outfit for booking this show!
Disciple was established in 1992 and fronted by Kevin Young, who, back in the day played bass as well as sing...or rather, yelled a lot. What started as a trio has evolved into a quartet and sometimes, even a quintet. But I digress...joining Kevin on this quest to bring heavenly metal to the masses are Andrew Stanton and Josiah Prince laying down rhythm and leads, with Joey West abusing the kit.
They open the show with the song "Panic Room". The energy and sheer power exploded from that point on. (The CD version has Andrew Schwab from Project 86 on the pre-chorous. Check it out!) As the show progressed and the brutal tunes were turning to a more mellow tempo, the guitarists and drummer took 5...rather about a good 20 minutes as Kevin shares a bit of life situations and how Bible Scriptures helped him see the more positive solutions to his struggle.
Along side of sharing his personal ups and downs, he brings the conversation to the crowds level and says words of encouragement, to trust God and His Word, to let go of depression and addiction. He ends his speech with the opportunity to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. (One reason why i love this band so much, is that they want what God wants. For ALL to be saved).
Ending the show with songs that go along side with what was said were "Dear X", a song about pain and hate not having control over your life, and "Invisible"...a song to let you know that no matter if you feel unseen, God sees you and He loves you.
Disciple's brand of music is a flawless blend of Metal and Hard Core, with a splash of Power Ballad. A crowd pleaser for anyone who wants to listen to good music. Even if you're not into the whole "Christian thing" or if you're searching, Disciple will rock your socks off! Just check out Spotify, then head on down to disciplerocks.com and purchase music and awesome designed shirts n' stuff.
Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. I hope this show review makes you want to check out the music that Disciple has been pouring out and making my ears bleed for 30 years!
