Rust In Peace was released September 24th, 1990 on Capitol Records and it garnered instant praise from fans and critics. The release also featured new members in guitarist Marty Friedman and drummer Nick Menza.
Rust In Peace bore two blistrering singles in Holy Wars and Hangar 18. and helped the band gain Grammy nominations that same year. The album went certified platinum and garnered widespread critical acclaim from Rolling Stone, Spin Magazine, The Chicago Tribune and Entertainment weekly. The album went on to have a large impact on the genre and is considered a high mark in the band's career given the addition of two new members.
Fun Fact: the lyrical content is filled with references to UFO conspiracies, drug addiction and also references Marvel Comic's the Punisher. The album title was inspired by a bumper sticker that Mustaine saw while driving home Lake Elsinore, California. The sticker read: "May all your nuclear weapons rust in peace".
