Show Notes:
Episode Fifty-One: Our latest episode explores a very gritty splatter-filled album of horror based lyrics and frenetic thrash action. The band in question is Rigor Mortis hailing from Fort Worth,Texas and delivering a rabid thrash attack with their debut album from 1988. Released on Capitol Records, the band gave us music that homaged gory horror films in a very explicit way.
With tracks like Bodily Dismemberment, Wizard of Gore, and Re-Animator, it was very easy to see who they idiolized in horror cinema. Film makers like Herschel Gordon Lewis, Tobe Hooper and horror writers like H.P. Lovecraft helped the band define their raw and aggressive sound. They created a very heavy thrash sound that often flirted with death metal and punk.
Fun Facts: The band had an iconic cover done by Powell Peralta skateboard artist Cort Johnson, that served the band’s image extremely well. It was so gruesome, that the band put out a trade in ad in issue 77 of Fangoria magazine.
