Show Notes:
Episode Six: Overkill's Horrorscope (1991). This is the fifth studio album from the New Jersey thrashers and considered to be their most complete record. Horrorscope was released on September 3, 1991 on Megaforce Records. It was the first album to feature the duo guitarists of Merritt Gant and Rob Cannavino; who helped to bring a more developed and complete sound to the band.
The album reached # 29 on the US Billboard Charts and arguably delivered the group's finest effort of the group's career. The songs "Coma" and "Infectious" were released as singles. Music videos for "Horrorscope" and "Thanx For Nothin" had music videos that were heavily featured on MTV's Headbanger's Ball.
Founding guitarist Bobby Gustafson left the band after a disagreement with Blitz and D.D. Verni. Drummer Sid Falck would depart from the band shortly after the completion of Horrorscope and was replaced with Tim Mallare. Despite the changing of the musical landscape of the 90's, Overkill would carve out an impressive total of six studio recordings and was the most active among thrash bands recording music in that decade.
Fun fact: The cover song of Edgar Winter's Frankenstein was included on Horrorscope and received consistent airplay on modern rock stations in the L.A. area.
