Show Notes:
Episode Eight: Exodus Fabulous Disaster (1989). This is the 3rd studio release from the Bay Area thrashers and it was the first album to not feature any line-up changes. The album also included two cover songs and was officially released January 30th, 1989.
The album had no singles, but the song The Toxic Waltz gained the most notoriety and premiered on MTV's Headbanger's Ball. Along with the song Lowrider, both received regular airplay. Fabulous Disaster debuted at no. 82 on the Billboard 200. The band toured extensively throughout the year in 1989 with bands like Anthrax, Nuclear Assault, Forbidden and Acid Reign.
Fun fact: The song Lowrider was a cover song originally recorded by the band War. The other cover song Overdose appeared as a bonus track and was originally recorded by AC DC on their 1977 album Let There Be Rock. This was also the last album that drummer Tom Hunting appeared on, until his eventual return in 1997 on the live album Another Lesson in Violence.
Final thoughts: The strongest track, The Last Act of Violence was inspired by the New Mexico State Penitentiary riot that happened in February 1980. The lyrics detail the horrific events that boiled over for a three day period. This is also considered a powerful track placed appropriately in the lead off position.
Fabulous Disaster is considered a fine record with explicit lyrics about violence, greed, destruction and war.
