Show Notes:
Episode Eighty Four: This week we circle back to Canada to review the first two albums from Dead Brain Cells. Hailing from Montreal, Quebec, the band formed in 1986 under the original band name Final Chapter, before changing their name a few years after that. DBC started out playing crossover thrash on the first record and then changing the style of music to progressive metal later on.
The band's debut was released on Combat records in the United States on September 1st, 1987 and is considered by many to be a true classic of the crossover style. The early style is known to be a cornucopia of raw and aggressive music, filled with fast tempos and sheer nastiness. Unfortunately, the band would pull a complete '180' and deliver a style overhaul on the follow-up record for "Universe". Released in 1989, the style is unlike anything heard previously with strong progressive leanings and delivering technicality on another level.
Fun Facts: DBC stands for Dead Brain Cells and at one point the band joked about the name as "Don't Buy Condoms".
