Show Notes:
Episode Ninety-Three: Jim, Ken and Jason get together again to discuss State of Euphoria to complete the month long salute to Anthrax. This is the band's fourth album released September 19th, 1988 on Megaforce/Island records.
State of Euphoria is the follow-up to the mega huge Among The Living. With this release, the band pulled back from the bombastic chug found on Among, but continued to progress their sound overall. Many of the songs dig deep into social themes and took inspiration from Stephen King (Misery Loves Company) and David Lynch (Now It's Dark). The band also covered Anti-Social from the French band Trust. The album was a commercial success and reached number 30 on the Billboard 200 charts.
Fun Facts: The album conceived by drummer Charlie Benante and was created by artist Don Brautigam who illustrated Among The Living. Don crafted a very colourful piece with the concept of going from chaos to calm. The cover is very trippy and the image of the metal head bears a striking resemblance to singer Joey Belladonna. The back covered featured the Not Man in a Mad Magazine styled illustration courtesy of Mort Drucker.
