Thrash metal is alive and kicking in Italy over the last few years, judging by the recent slate of bands sprouting up like wildfire lately. One such band is Thrash Bombz who began life in 2007 and after an EP and a split with Aneurysm and Maghanat; they recorded their full length release Mission of Blood.
The album is about 40 minutes of energetic thrash metal, brimming with meaty riffs and exhibiting that serious chug throughout each song. The opening number “Mosh Tank” kick starts into gear, setting a good pace with the speed and aggression. Other tracks like “Thrash Bombz” and “Mission in Blood” pile on the thrash in serious doses and what I took most from this is the speed in which vocalist Thrash Maniac spits put the words at a torrid pace. The singer is on fire through most of the songs and he definitely scream with the best of them.
Standout tracks for me are “Necrosis” and “A.H.B.” which utilize speed, aggression and gang vocals to the max. “The Curse” is a full on melodic masterpiece, complete with stellar riffing as far as instrumental numbers go. The final track to close things out is “Toxic Waste” and it continues to chug along demanding head banging and fist pumping to full effect. The song is quite short, but I can’t think of a better to number to close out Mission of Blood.
Thrash Bombz may not be reinventing the wheel here with their brand of thrash metal, but they do know how to reinvigorate the genre. What I like the most about this band is their attitude towards merging thrash metal with some hardcore influences and mixing it together for a sound that I fully enjoyed. I am curious to see how they follow up this great release and hopefully push forward with some killer metal.
