Here is a unique musical entity encompassing both worlds of horror and metal into a visceral package called Zombie Death Stench. The name of the band says it all, and yet the band straddles the line into several genres of music. For starters you get the synth laden tones (often reminiscent of John Carpenter) skittering around the meaty riffs of thrash and death metal esthetics.
That’s quite a package overall and yet the brutality and sheer ugliness of their sound seeps through on several numbers. Most notably for me are “Demonic Possession” and “Taste of Death” which kick you hard in the guts. Other tracks like “Darkstar” tend to push the boundaries a bit with the synths, and then a track like “Sincrypt” begins with an ominous tone and then gestates into a rabid take with the vocals and guitars.
The latter half of The Coming Bloodbath is punctuated with a killer number that pays homage to Clive Barker’s Raw Head Rex. The track is called “King Under Zeal” and it nearly tore my head off, since I am a huge Barker fan. From there you get a nasty little number called “Obliteration Imminent” and then caped off by 8 minutes of total metallic bliss with “The Last Vanguard” built around an epic array of sounds and malicious tones.
Bands like Zombie Death Stench who derive their sound and look from the horror genre are an interesting marriage. Obviously this website is built around both of those genres, but it’s great to find bands like this that pay the same kind of homage. What’s even cooler is that vocalist and rhythm guitarist Sean Walusko is also an accomplished artist of some evocative horrific inspired images, so that adds to appeal for me. You can check out some of his work at his website posted in the link down below.
The Coming Bloodbath is the band’s third release and it surely deserves some loving from all you horror and metal obsessed fans who dig these genres. I like what they bring to the table and Zombie Death Stench can surely find a permanent home at HMS.
