ALBUMS UNDER REVIEW

VIDEO OF THE WEEK

Hailing from Canada, Insurrection is a rare gem found in a sea of all who strive to be Metal. Their latest album brings something new to the table for me; harrowing and ardent lyrics delivered by powerful vocals in both English and French. I’ve personally enjoyed music in foreign languages in the past, so this was definitely a nice surprise to experience Metal in French. The drummer is on point in every single song and surprisingly no two songs sounded the same. The band clearly works well together as a unit. Production, time, and obvious creative efforts were all thrown together for a passionate album.

There were a few disappointing things I found while listening. For example, the songs for the most part stay at the same pace; lacking the potential to blow it out of the water with some technical guitar solos. The vocals (as impressive as they were) stayed within a small vocal range. I would love to hear what the lead singer could really do if he broadened the spectrum a bit. Other than the album being bilingual, I couldn’t really point out one specific thing that Insurrection does to set themselves apart from other bands in their genre.

Does this make them anything but good? Nay, I say. I surely enjoyed listening to this album and if they’re ever in my area, I’ve read online that they put on one hell of a live performance, so I would definitely try to catch them live.

Final Say: Insurrection is a great band. If you’re a fan of Black Dahlia Murder, Job For A Cowboy or dare I say bands in the ‘deathcore’ genre then you’ve found yourself an overall well delivered album that screams “We are the real deal.”
