VIDEO OF THE WEEK

Lockersludge are a three piece band from the U.K. who combine such genres like sludge/doom and hardcore music to create a distinctive sound. I find bands like this that take a variety of styles, blend them all together in this fashion make for a pleasurable listening experience. The group have created 5 songs for an album called Drawing Lessons and although it goes by quickly, the songs are energetic throughout.

I would say the music is sludgy, but not to the point that you are finding it boring or just plain too slow for your liking. I enjoyed the pace and felt that opening track “Burden of Pain” reminded me of later period Confessor. The second track “Guilt, Anger and Aggression” is dominated by heavy riffs, but still quite catchy for my tastes. The same can be said for the title track “Drawing Lessons” which hammers into a steady pace and is encased by shouted vocals in a similar vein to the band Ministry.

Like I said, the five songs flow well and the final two tracks “The Beard of Doom” and “Burn in Hell” drive straight into doomy, heavy plodding territory, but keep it relatively entertaining. The lyrics to Burn in Hell though, tickled my fancy since it covers Matthew Hopkins the Witchfinder General, and I liked the catchy approach to the songwrting for this number. Overall, Lockersludge have a formula that will appeal to anyone who enjoys a musical blend of this variety, but it ended a bit too quickly. It feels more like an EP, but don’t let that stop you from checking this one out.
