Show Notes:
Episode Eleven: Anthrax's Among the Living (1987). This Is the third studio release from American thrash act Anthrax. The band, hailing from Queens, NY released the album on Megaforce Records March 16, 1987 and was met with critical acclaim. The music is full of raw intensity, powerful riffs, and exhibits a crossover feel into hardcore and punk. The album did show the band's continual growth in songwriting and propelled them into the big 4; joining Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer.
The album helped Anthrax move from playing small clubs and going into Arenas and big stadiums. Among the Living also earned the band their second gold record and was certified gold on July 31, 1990. The album produced successful singles with Indians and I Am The Law, in addition to propelling the band into the mainstream.
Many of the songs sported engaging horrific and funny lyrics about comic books, horror movies and pop culture and this is arguably considered a thrash classic because of it.
Fun Fact: To celebrate the band's 40th anniversary, they released a comic book to celebrate Among the Living in 2021. The collection of stories feature contributions from an all-star lineup of writers and artists: including; Corey Taylor, Grant Morrison, Rob Zombie, Brian Azzarello and Rick Remender.
