Suicidal Tendencies returned in a big way with the 1988 release of How Will I Laugh Tomorrow...When I Can't Even Smile Today. This being their third release on Epic Records that blended perfectly the crossover appeal of punk and thrash. The album was their first release on Epic, signifying a big change in musical direction going from hardcore punk to thrash.
With the addition of guitarist Mike Clark (coming over from No Mercy), his abilities playing rhythm complimented lead player Rocky George. The one-two punch combination of both musicians brought a new metallic edge to the band and also gave George more soloing time. With the stylistic change complete, the music became more defined, more complex and lengthy. This new template also came replete with better production values that served the band's musical direction on all the subsequent albums that followed this release.
Fun Facts: The first single Trip At The Brain had a music video shot by film director Bill Fishman; who brought us the movie Tapeheads; a 1988 comedy featuring actors John Cusack and Tim Robbins. John was brought in for a cameo and shared a funny moment chastising vocalist Mike Muir in a brief scene.
