Show Notes:
Episode Twenty-Four: Tankard's Chemical Invasion (1987) Is the sophomore album from German thrashers who are considered a part of the Big 4 of German thrash. Joining them are Kreator, Sodom and Destruction who have rivalled the ferocity and musical output as their American counterparts.
Tankard, hailing from Frankfurt formed in 1982. They released Chemical Invasion in October of 1987 to generally positive reviews worldwide. The album was seen as an improvement over the debut 'Zombie Invasion' in 1986. Many critics noted it was far better in terms of songwriting and technique. However, much of their musical output continued to centre around beer drinking and partying, instead of writing about war, disease and horror like their teutonic brothers. The band's style and musical content have served them well over the course of 18 studio albums, and deserve to be considered a part of the German Big Four.
Fun Facts: The early album covers were illustrated by Sebastian Kruger. The group's mascot The Tankard-Alien debuted on their 1989 EP 'Alien' and has appeared on many of their releases over the next four decades.
