Show Notes:
Episode Thirty-one: This week we review the debut release from American thrashers Atrophy, hailing from Phoenix, Arizona. Along with bands like Flotsam and Jetsam and Sacred Reich, the trio have all carved out an impressive resume of bands coming out of Arizona.
Socialized Hate was released November 7th, 1988 on Roadrunner Records to great acclaim. The album was produced by prolific producer/engineer Bill Metoyer who worked on metal releases throughout the 80's and 90's. The album is solid, thrashes hard and generally appealed to metalheads at the time of release. The album is overloaded with tightly written thrash, sometimes technical, but also ripe with power and aggression. Vocalist Brian Zimmerman had a unique terse style that suited the hard hitting material and his voice also complimented the socially conscious lyrics.
Fun facts: The album artwork was done by Brian Anderson and it featured a sort of mascot in the form of a jester clown. The clown has appeared on the second album (Violent By Nature) and again on the latest release Asylum.
