Show Notes:
Episode Thirty-Five: This week on Thrashcast we are joined by special guest Gus Pynn of Sacrifice to talk about Soldiers of Misfortune. The album was released at the beginning of 1990 on Diabolic Force records. It featured thrash metal that pulled back a bit on the aggressive speed found on the previous release Forward To Termination. The music here is stylish, and continues to remain brutal, but much more thought provoking lyrically. Most fans and critics feel this album to be the pinnacle of the band's output.
Sacrifice are part of the big four of Canadian thrash metal, along witth Annihilator, Razor and Voivod. Much of their style often crosses the line over to death metal; especially in the vocals of Rob Urbinati. They can be stylistically compared to bands like Kreator, Demolition Hammer, Morbid Saint and Dark Angel, and have played with many of the top tier thrash acts from the Bay area in America.
After the release of Apocalypse Inside in 93' the band called it quits and didn't reconvene until 2006 for a reunion show in Toronto. They released the stellar comeback record The Ones That I Condemn in 2009 and continue playing shows and festivals across the globe. The band also announced a new album Volume 6 to be released in January of 2025, along with a hometown gig later in that year.
Fun Facts: The band released the Re-Animated DVD on Marquee Records in 2012 that featured songs recorded at the Opera House in Toronto.
