Show Notes:
Episode Forty-Seven: This week we discuss crossover stalwarts D.R.I and their classic 1989 album Thrash Zone. The album perfctly blends hardcore, thrash and speed metal and provides fans with music that will unite moshers and skateboarders alike.
Crossover was released October 10th 1989. This being the band's 5th record, became their most successful album to date. They made a music video for the song "Beneath The Wheel" that received aiplay on MTV. The song became favorite among the skateboard community, as it appeared in the video game Skate 2. They made a second video for "Abduction" later on and it also gained tons of accolades.
Fun Facts: The band's logo "Skanker Man" was created by vocalist Kurt Brecht in 1982 as an art school project to create a corporate logo. This was eventually adopted for use by the band and has gone on to become favourite thrash logo for fans into the genre.
Skanking is a term used for fans who went to concerts and moshed and slam danced their way on the dance floor. The skanking pedestrian as he was known back then has become synomous with the band and the thrash metal genre on the whole.
