Show Notes:
Episode Sixty-Seven: This week Jason returns to talk about Celtic Frost's infamous release Cold Lake. The hatred for Cold Lake seems to be universally so, even Tom Warrior has made his disdain for the album. Released on September 1st, 1988 on Noise Records, it featured a new line-up and a complete 180 change in style, tone, and music. Many call this album glam metal, but it was evident by fans the betrayal from their previous style was the ultimate crime.
The fanbase simply walked away claiming Frost to be sell-outs. Gone was the underground appeal of death/thrash/black metal influences and replaced with the band having teased hairstyles and playing music that sounded like Motley Crue. Some Music critics like Martin Popoff considered this to be a good record, filled with interesting riffs and street-level-scary lyrics.
