Show Notes:
Episode Eighty Nine: Jim and Ken return as a twosome to discuss Sodom's Persecution Mania. Released on December 1st, 1987 on Steamhammer/SPV, Sodom unleashed a major thrash bomb. The music moved away from speed/black metal and thrived in the arena of pure thrash. The band's sound was defined here; allowing them to join side-by-side with Destruction, Kreator and Tankard to form the Teutonic Big 4 of German Thrash metal.
The lyrical themes of the album drew inspiration from politics and war. Guitarist Frank Blackfire was responsible for the new approach writing song lyrics; helping the band form this new thrash identity. This new approach helped the band define a much cleaner sound, while pushing the musicianship to greater heights.
Fun Facts: The cover art from Johannes Beck featured the band's mascot Knarrenheinz as a gas-masked super soldier riddled with nuclear power.
