ALBUMS UNDER REVIEW

VIDEO OF THE WEEK

Originating from Sweden and comprising of Robert Andersso (vocals/guitar), Edvin Aftonfalk (guitar) Adam Lindmark (bass) and Stefan Johansson (drums) - this band are promoted as being one of the most unique, authentic and extreme bands of today. Whilst they fit into the extreme bracket I don’t believe they are as truly unique or authentic as that declaration. I for one hear some Coroner and of course some Sabbath (as do most metal bands) in amongst the songs. Every band has an influence and trust me this is not a bad thing. I have never come across Morbus Chron before but they are signed to Century Media so this suggests that they have a solid basis to make and sell music.

Upon hearing Sweven several times I personally don’t believe that they will ever convert me into a Morbus “fan” and I found the songs, whilst being well written and performed, to blend together in an almost concept album way without necessarily being a concept album. The production is quite flat and lacks a spark to ignite what potentially could grab a listener’s attention. As I have said earlier the musicianship is very good and the songs are well written and performed, they lack (in my opinion) purpose and the performances seem to be inhibited. I found the inclusion of “Solace” (an instrumental) unnecessary as it reminded me so much of the opener “Berceuse”.

So for all the Morbus fans out there (and this is based on NOT hearing ANY of their previous releases) I give this a 6.5.
