Show Notes:
Episode Forty-Five: We head back to Germany and get ready to discuss Destruction's sophomore release Eternal Devastation. Released July 12, 1986 on Steamhammer records, the album saw the band move away from the proto-black metal style found on the first album, moving towards a more contemporary thrash style.
The trio of musicians consisted of Marcel Schmier on bass guitar, Mike Sifringer on leads and Tommy Sandmann on drums. The biggest change here is the more classical approach from a guitarists perspective. The music remained fast and heavy and continued the use of chuggy guitars combined with that familiar wall of sound. Clocking in at just over thirty-five minutes, Eternal Devastation packed a major punch and included the instrumental "Upcoming Devastation". Killer tracks like "Curse of the Gods", "Confound Games" and "Life Without Sense" continue to remain staples in the live set.
Fun Facts: Drummer Sandmann left the band after this release to become a police officer. The album art was created by Sebastain Kruger who also went on to illustrate covers for Tankard and was responsible for creating the drunk alien mascot for the band.
