Show Notes:
Episode Fifty-Seven: This week we go back to the big four of thrash and discuss the 5th album from Anthrax. The album in question is Persistence of Time; released on Megaforce/Island records during the late summer in August of 1990. The album was a huge change for the band, as they dropped the humour and went for a more serious tone. Many of the songs reduced the aggression and speed in favour of more progressive leanings and mid tempos.
Persistence featured lyrics about the passage of time, war, personal tragedy and was forged with a dark sound in mind. There's also a cover of Joe Jackson's Got The Time that received a good reaction from fans and critics alike. The album reached 24 on the Billboard 200 and went gold. During the recording, a studio fire resulted in a hundred grand of loses with band gear and equipment. They eventually moved to a new studio and finished the record. This was also the last album for vocalist Joey Belladonna who was fired not long after.
Fun Facts: The album was created by Don Brautigam who created the cover art on Among The Living and State of Euphoria. On Persistence he created a cover that references the Twilight Zone and Salvador Dali.
